Skills Illustrated: Accessibility, design, architecture, AJAX
Context:

The 24 Hour Relay one of Easter Seals' more signification events, raising up to $800,000 each year. Participants register and fundraise using a web application. Below is the landing page to 24 Hour Relay, for which I built all of the dynamic controls, the registration web site, and an internal content management engine facilitating content population and presentation. Please note that I did not create the top multi-colored navigation bar, which had been created by an external organization and does not meet accessibility guidelines.

  • On the left vertical menu, in the Register/Login box click "View Scoreboard" to view the Scoreboard layer which is dynamically populated from an external server using AJAX.
  • In the Register/Login box, login as a participant using obrown810 as both username and password.
  • In the Register/Login box, click "Sponsor a Runner" to follow the sponsor a runner workflow. Search for "Bill Trenbeth" and view his personal donation page. Click "Sponsor Me" to view the donation page.

Website: Conn Smythe Day Winning Bid Report
Organization: The Easter Seal Society, Ontario
Year: 2006
Audience: Five pre-determined data-entry operators
Skills Illustrated: Usability, AJAX
Context:

Easter Seals holds the Conn Smythe Sports Celebrities Dinner and Auction each year at the Toronto Metro Trade & Convention Centre. One live and two silent auctions are held with approximately $1 million in proceed. In each silent auction (about 300 items), bidders complete a bid sheet physically located near the item. At the auction close, bid sheets are collected, recorded, sorted, and a list of the winners and their invoices distributed.

The requirement for this application was usability and speed of use. It employs AJAX to dynamically list table members, item descriptions and past bids. All details related to past bids may be edited in any way using an interface that emulates Google Spreadsheets functionality.

  • Feel free to enter, edit, or delete bids.
  • Enter a table number for which bids have already been presented; list of table members presented. Select name from the list if it matches the one on the bid sheet.
  • Entering lot number dynamically presents lot description.
  • Spreadsheet can be dynamically edited by double-clicking to change any cell, or to delete a row.
